And now, faith, hope, and love abide,
these three...1 Cor.13:13
It can be tempting to write hope off as weak. We often hear, "I hope it doesn't rain." (or living here in Flagstaff AZ....I hope it doesn't snow today) Using hope in this way is mere wishing with no power behind it.
And yet, hope matters. Hope, love and faith are closely related. Paul listed these specific three for a reason. They are inseparable sister virtues, each one stronger through association with the other two. A faithful woman is all the stronger if she is also a hopeful woman; and the faithful, hopeful woman is all the more complete if she is also a loving woman. When used together, these beautiful qualities multiply their power and result in immense strength.
Faith lifts the staggering soul on one side,
Hope supports its on the other.
Experience says it must be,
and Love says let it be.
